This is a highly specialized individual contributor role that requires deep expertise from a professional / technical thought leader in their respective field or discipline. This position typically requires extensive experience in a specialized field and an advanced college degree or equivalent. The role requires expertise within a discipline in a specialized field. The job provides technical guidance and direction for his/ her area of specialization. The job requires good analytical skills as well as evaluative judgement based on the analysis of factual and qualitative information in complicated or novel situations. The complexity implied at this level of problem solving relates to the ability to filter, prioritize, analyze and validate potentially complex and dynamic material. This job typically requires a degree or equivalent and a minimum of 6 or more years experience.
Position summary:
Perform Enterprise Architecture (EA) duties specifically related to the assessment and recommendation of appropriate solutions that are aligned to the Stryker and IT strategies. The role will be responsible for providing analysis and support in the evaluation of new technologies, as well as maintaining architectural roadmaps that reflect the lifecycle of EA standard solutions categorized by data/information domain, technology and/or business capability.
This role will also act as an ambassador for EA, instilling current policies and standards across the broader IT organization, and will provide support to Senior Enterprise Architects with proposed solution analysis as part of discovery activities.
Essential duties & responsibilities: (detailed description)
This role will be required to:
- Architecture Development: Develop, review, approve, and maintain enterprise architecture blueprints and roadmaps. Analyze pain points and opportunities that transcend business areas and propose enterprise strategies or solutions.
- Architecture Governance: Represent Enterprise Architecture and provide thought leadership in solution architecture peer reviews and architecture governance forums. Ensure that IT portfolio decisions provide business value and optimize total cost of ownership.
- Planning and Operations: Assess projects for architecture impacts in support of annual planning, resource estimation, and alignment with IT strategy and enterprise architecture. Provide regular reporting on progress, issues, and opportunities related to enterprise architecture.
- Application Roadmaps: Develop and maintain IT application roadmaps and life cycle management for core business applications based on IT Strategy and Roadmap.
- Architecture Recommendations: Provide inputs to E2E architecture recommendations and support roadmap creation and maintenance activities, including periodic evaluation and analysis of current standards against industry benchmarks and trends.
- Risk Mitigation via End2End Arch Review: Identify and document architectural dependencies and establish logical sequence of activities with proposed deployment plans based on business demand and E2E solution roadmaps.
- Business Partnerships: Work with IT business partners to support solution qualification stage activities (what is the problem looking to solve) and recommend solutions that will deliver planned business outcomes.
- Technology Partnerships: Work with IT Build/Run teams throughout planning and design phases of a project to ensure solution blueprints include plans to sunset obsolete solutions and that proposed solutions drive penetration activities for standard solution adoption. Collaborate with IT Solution Architects to determine full end state architecture and identify and document significant deviations from EA standards or recommended solutions.
- Documentation: Document required end-to-end (E2E) architectural blueprints, logical architecture diagrams, data/information flows, process flows and integrations.
- Promote EA Best Practices: Actively participate in the EA community to review, challenge and develop recommended solution that promotes adoption of standard solutions and adhere to end state reference architecture.
Education & special trainings:
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or the equivalent is required
Qualifications & experience:
- Minimum of 6 years of solid experience in at least two IT disciplines - technical architecture, business architecture, application development (ERP/BI & Analytics/Web & Mobile/Customer-focused solutions/Middleware), database management or operations management
- Familiarity with solution delivery methodologies such as SDLC, Agile, or Waterfall
- ITIL knowledge and background will be an added advantage
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze and synthesize this information through meta models and architecture diagrams that uncover operational gaps.
- Eye for Design: Ability to review End2End design describing the elements of a system, how they fit, and work together to fulfill the requirement of the system.
- Architectural Practices: Strong interest in and a practitioner of Enterprise Architecture practices such as The Zachman Framework for Enterprise Architecture, Zachman Framework, TOGAF, FEAF, and Gartner's Enterprise Architecture Framework, etc.
- Business Acumen: Good understanding of the business side of technology. It includes budgeting, business case for IT initiatives, and the Stryker corporate strategy.
- Financial Acumen - Ability to estimate the fiscal impact of technical architecture alternatives.
- Excellent communication skills: Ability to communicate clearly and articulate concepts effectively cross-functionally and at various levels within the organization.
- Influence without Authority - Strong collaboration and influencing skills are required to consistently drive outcomes through influence rather than through direct control.
- Critical Thinking - Ability to use reasoning, experience, research, and available resources to understand problems fundamentally and then resolve them.
